For people who have never heard of men having breast reductions the thought of it can seem quite out of the ordinary, but in actual fact there are a growing number of men each year who have a gynecomastia surgery. There are a multitude of reasons why a man might start to develop breasts, or man boobs as they are also known such as putting on weight - but if the problem is more serious and losing weight will not help, man breast reduction becomes necessary.
The gynecomastia plastic surgery is usually required when the man in question is suffering from a medical condition that is known as gynecomastia, which is when the tissue in the men chest starts to develop in much the same way that a female breast would. This is due to enlarged mammary glands that continue to grow, and are not just down to what people call 'puppy fat' - something which is common in young men and boys who are going through puberty. Some men even find that as well as their breasts developing they can start to produce milk or lactate - but this only happens in rare cases and a doctor should be consulted if this happens. Any man however who starts to develop breasts will be, quite rightly alarmed and will want to take whatever steps are needed to regain his normal figure once again.
There are different types of man breast reduction surgery which have good results for the men that choose to have them. Liposuction is one very popular method to get rid of man boobs and this is performed under anaesthetic and works by removing or sucking the fatty deposits around the breast with a cannula (metal tube). Afterwards the man should expect to feel quite sore but should be back to normal, with a flat chest, in around 1-2 weeks after their surgery. It is always a good idea to restrict any activities that require a great deal of arm movement or strain on the arms for 3-6 weeks after such gynecomastia treatment just to make sure that the tissue has settled correctly, this will also reduce the risk of scarring and excessive pain.
When liposuction will not help to reduce man boobs due to the problem being glandular or hormonal surgical excision is usually the procedure that is used. This works by actually removing part of the tissue that forms the breast by creating incisions either around the armpit or around the areola. From these incisions breast tissue is quickly and safely removed, the incisions are then sewn up and the man is left with a flat chest and the scarring is minimal. Sometimes during such a procedure the surgeon may find it necessary to perform a little bit of liposuction in order to create a flatter chest, this is quite normal and is only used to ensure that the result is as natural looking as possible. Once again it is wise to limit certain activities after gynecomastia surgery for a few weeks as this will give the chest the chance to settle and for the swelling to subside.
